Program: Stellar Phoenix SQL Recovery
Company: Stellar Data Recovery
Supported OS: Windows NT, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Server 2008, Vista, 7
Price: $399 USD
Overall Rating: 8 out of 10
What It Does:
Stellar Phoenix SQL Recovery repairs corrupt MS SQL Databases, and is compatible with SQL 7.0, 2000, 2005, and 2008.
The required disk space for Stellar Phoenix SQL Recovery was around 50MB, and it took less than 15 seconds to install.
After the installation is complete and Stellar Phoenix SQL Recovery is started, an information box is displayed that tells the user that if they have MS SQL Server running, to stop it, move the database(s) to a different location, and then restarting the MS SQL Server.
The user is then prompted to either browse for the SQL Database, or to have Stellar Phoenix SQL Recovery search for the database(s) on a particular drive. We’ll automatically search for databases using the “Find MDF File” button.
Once we’ve opted to automatically search, all we have to do is specify which drive that files should be searched for.
Below is a screenshot of the “Find MDF File” routine in progress. Instead of a progress bar, the interface displays an animated icon while the search is underway.
After all the SQL database files are found, as always, I choose the largest one. Even though the recommended amount of RAM for Stellar Phoenix SQL Recovery to function smoothly is 2GB (which I have), I would imagine that an SQL database that’s just over 2.6MB in size shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Larger SQL databases would obviously take a lot longer to scan and repair.
The scan/repair procedure took less than 45 seconds, which isn’t bad at all. Once that is complete, the user can preview and save information safely and efficiently.
Ease Of Use:
Stellar Phoenix SQL Recovery’s interface is pretty straightforward, and is designed with a novice user in mind.
The installation was quick, like most of Stellar Data Recovery’s software. Due to the nature of SQL databases, the installation size of this application was larger, but that didn’t seem to increase the installation time at all. It scanned and repaired SQL databases with ease. The only real downside is the price tag of nearly $400, but this application is typically not something the average user would purchase or make use of. The cheapest alternative to purchasing Stellar Phoenix SQL Recovery is to make regular backups of your databases instead, if you’re concerned with spending a few hundred dollars.
Recovers and repairs corrupt databases quickly and effectively.
The $399 price tag.
